Subway Kitchen Tile Backsplashes
Subway Tile is the term we tend to use these days to describe an old fahioned type of tile, typically found in the New York Subway system, but also very commonly used in old fashioned swimming pools, bath houses etc.
In the UK, it was also very common to see subway tiles used in Fish n Chip shops or fishmongers. Often a 2"x6" wall tile, all the way up to 3" x 6" today, it is usually used to describe any tile that has more width than height, laid in a common brick pattern.
They became very popular in the late 19th and early 20th century and they were easy to produce and easy to clean, and also very forgiving of not so perfect walls.
Today they have become very popular as an alternative form of Kitchen Backsplash and are available in a wide range of sizes and colors.
