European Traditional House in Japan

European Traditional House in Japan
Nowadays, it's so difficult to search an ancient home design in the middle town as Hyogo - Japan. One of several ancient house is The Yamamura House. The Yamamura House, situated on a ridge overlooking the affluent city of Ashiya, was designed in 1918 by Frank Lloyd Wright as a retreat for the family of a local sake brewer, Tazaemon Yamamura. Construction began in 1923 and was completed in 1924 under the direction of two of Wright's disciples, Arata Endo and Makoto Minami. In 1974 the Yamamura House was designated an Important National Cultural Asset. It was later opened to the public under its new name, the Yodoko Guest House.

The Japanese rooms, guest rooms, and bathrooms are located on the third floor and accessed by a short flight of stairs. The long entry corridor connecting these rooms is enclosed by floor to ceiling windows on the west exterior wall. In the afternoon natural light streams into the corridor, casting delicate shadows of leaf-like patterns across the floor through decorative copper window plates. This same motif is repeated on other windows, doors, and door transoms throughout the house, blurring the distinction between exterior and interior.

Best Bungalow Style

Best Bungalow Style
What is Bungalow? When you see a cozy one storied dwelling, with low-pitched roof and very wide eaves, lots of windows and an outside chimney of cobble or clinker-brick half hidden by clinging vines -- that is a bungalow, whatever other houses may be.

Today's bungalows continue a living, eclectic design tradition. Wall sconces, art glass and stenciled decoration highlight the original beauty of architectural features like wainscoting, box-beam ceilings, and wide wood moldings around the fireplace.
The palette is muted: quiet greens, creams and mustard enhance natural wood, stone, terra cotta and brick. Natural light and the treatment of the garden as an "exterior room" link indoor and outdoor space. Craft is made visible in mortise-and-tenon furniture, hand-hammered copper fixtures, built-in benches and bookcases.
Here are the description of the design:
  • Walls: wainscoting, stenciling, muted cream, yellow, sage. Fieldstone, brick.
  • Ceilings: beams, log accents.
  • Floors: wood, tile or stone.
  • Cabinets: built-in shelves or hutches; details like mullioned doors, beveled glass. (Bungalows in California tend to use redwood, while Midwestern and east coast Craftsman houses use more oak.)
  • Fireplace: stone or brick with wide wood molding on the sides, a mantel above, a beveled glass mirror. Decorative tile around the edges. An over mantel rustic landscape or scenic tiles.
  • Furniture: built-in benches, breakfast nooks. Mahogany with mortise-and-tenon and peg construction, inlaid tiles, green marble.
  • Lighting: Craftsman lights on either side of mantel. Prairie style lamps with leaded glass panels, brass base. Simple hanging globe fixtures in inglenook. Hand-hammered copper candlesticks.
  • Windows: Lots of windows for natural light; many-paned windows, particularly large lower panes and small upper panes; stained glass with Arts and Crafts designs.

Best Basement Design

Best Basement Design A basement need not look like a basement…
A basement is usually used only for vehicle parking or for store another goods, but by designing as well as possible, we can maximize the function of the basement, with sufficient lighting, decorations and locating another vital room such as bathroom or toilet. Usually, basement's floor are designed simplify, we can change the floor with color and surface matched with the wall. The picture was taken from www.southamdesign.com

Best Bathroom Design

Best Bathroom Design
If we want to create a sleek, contemporary, clean lined bathroom that would leave a lasting impression. We need to provide sufficient space with large window and near the bedroom. We can transform the guest room adjacent to the master bedroom.Creating a subtle division between the two by allowing for a large 45” wide barn door as the separation between the two rooms. Maximize the size of the existing window by doubled to allow for a large amount of light to penetrate the space. This is my best home design for bathroom I ever known.

Strong geometry was key to this space. The floating lacquer vanity is framed by a 3” thick asymmetrical concrete counter. A 48” rectangular, 2 person sink is balanced by the floating 48 x 48 medicine cabinets made of walnut. In order to create the unconventional while maintaining the functional, the cabinet storage is accessed by side pull-outs - his and her. The elevation is completed by the addition of 3 walnut niches above the toilet.

The tub deck/shower enclosure also creates a strong statement. The tub deck, made of concrete supports the ‘vessel’ tub, which sits 4” above the deck. For the moments of contemplations we added a recessed plasma tv above the tub for viewing pleasure. The bold statement made by the grey-toned polished concrete is balance by the cream, polished 12x24 tiles in the shower.

Of course in an open concept design well thought out storage is a necessity. We designed a floor to ceiling, wall to wall storage unit consisting of 15x15 walnut, flat panel doors. We rotated each panel a quarter turn to create a basket weave grain design. A small detail with large impact. Functionally, the base cabinet of this unit houses a large laundry pull-out that can be accessed by the adjacent laundry room!

A perfect example of a design where the sum of the parts create the whole - Asymmetrical in nature while creating a perfect balance. The design was taken from www.southamdesign.com, visit the web and order it.

Minimalist Kitchen

Maximize the wall to place cabinet for placing small cooking tools, glassware, plate, spoon, etc. We can also maximize the lower space of the table by locating cabinet to place vegetables, or other ingredients.

The Benefits of Minimalist Design

minimalist room designThere are a lot of benefits in house remodeling to design a minimalist room design, here are several of them:
  1. Less stressful.Clutter is a form of visual distraction, and everything in our vision pulls at our attention at least a little. The less clutter, the less visual stress we have. A minimalist home is calming.
  2. More appealing. Think about photos of homes that are cluttered, and photos of minimalist homes. The ones with almost nothing in them except some beautiful furniture, some nice artwork, and a very few pretty decorations, are the ones that appeal to most of us. You can make your home more appealing by making it more minimalist.
  3. Easier to clean. It’s hard to clean a whole bunch of objects, or to sweep or vacuum around a bunch of furniture. The more stuff you have, the more you have to keep clean, and the more complicated it is to clean around the stuff. Think about how easy it is to clean an empty room compared to one with 50 objects in it. That’s an extreme example, of course, as I wouldn’t recommend you have an empty room, but it’s just to illustrate the difference.

Bringing Glamor Back, The new Home Design Trend of 2008

Several famous home designer said that Design trends are fascinating things to observe. They can be predictable or surprising, so the recent interest in natural materials has spawned the renewed fascination for glamorous and refined designs" in the look he calls "Luxe Redux."Here are highlights from Remignanti's 2008 Design Trends report:
  • The Return of Glamour: A renewed appreciation for post-Deco glamour brings refined silhouettes and finishes to the fore. The look of "Luxe Redux" features gently swept lines, strong geometric forms, and finishes that emphasize exotic veneers.
  • Scaling Down: Exaggeratedly oversized furniture is on the way out.
  • Scaling Up: Not everything is going small scale. "A very hot trend is large scale patterns used in fabrics and floor and wall coverings.
  • Black and White: Stylish interiors are using black and white as the main color scheme. "Using black, even as the dominant color in a room, can yield classic and refreshingly chic results.
  • Accent Colors: A "spice-inflected" palette will be the hottest look in accent colors for the coming year. He lists carnelian, flax, russet and acid green as the hottest hues, and predicts that 2008 will be the year that blue makes a strong return.
  • Vintage in the Mix: A still-strong trend of "a la carte," mix-and-match interiors has people combining old and new pieces in interesting ways.
Remignanti counsels against the idea of "rules" for good design, but offers one piece of timeless advice. "Remember that however well put together a room may be, it's meant to be used. If a room isn't comfortable and inviting for those inside it, it's a design failure, no matter how stylish it may be."

Designing an Antique Chinese Dinning Room

Celebrating Chinese New Year, in around the world there are a lot of people who want to celebrate with Chinese style in all things. One of the most famous of Chinese style is room design. Especially for designing Chinese dinning room,we should considering several important thing.

First, The walls of the dining room are painted a warm mustard color to offset the burgundy drapes and a restored wooden Qing dynasty lampshade is covered with Xian silk. Six yokeback armchairs - all balanced forms and artistic lines-are placed around the dining table set with traditional Korean celadon ware.

Second, Chinese calligraphy, carved woods, latticework, lacquer and open fireplaces define the series of intimate lounges and dining room which make up BAM-BOU restaurant in London's Fitzrovia. Vietnam and China have interwoven histories and today the ethnic-Chinese (Hoa) constitute the largest single minority group in Vietnam. It is common to fine Chinese temples and homes that once belonged to rich mandarins still intact across the country today.

The last thing is the impressive dining room table, we need special Chinese furniture to improve the sense of Chinese culture, we can use orient or Chinese Traditional table set. The image are taken from www.yunxingfurniture.com
